I would like us to think about goals.
What is it that you want?
And if you do not fully know yet, that is OK. Many people do not. But I have always believed you cannot hit a target unless you have one.
A goal gives direction to the mind.
It gives meaning to effort.
It gives movement a destination.
But there is something important you must understand about goals.
There is an old saying:
“Don’t walk past good looking for perfect.”
Perhaps today we should say it this way instead:
Do not walk past near perfect seeking the unattainable perfect.
Perfection is a trap.
Near perfect is alive. It grows. It evolves. It moves forward.
When you have a goal, never sell yourself short.
Set a goal that requires you to reach high.
Do not be impatient with the goal or with yourself.
Congratulate your movement toward it and embrace the journey.
Your goal does not need to be flawless.
It simply needs to point you in the right direction.
As I discovered, remarkable things can happen once the mind finally has a target worth moving toward.
And know that your goal is not the end.
It is simply an essential milestone on this wonderful journey we all call life.
