"The transformation wasn't just physical. It was mental, emotional, and spiritual. By 71, I had learned that age is just a number when you have the right approach."

Body Composition Background

Unbeknownst to me, my transformation began around December 10, 2022, when I weighed about 190 pounds. I had not yet measured my body fat and did not realize what was beginning, only that something felt different.

Later in the month, I decided to start tracking my progress using the InBody 270 at my fitness center.

The first recorded scan on December 26, 2022 showed:

  • Body Fat: ~18%
  • Skeletal Muscle Mass: 85.8 lbs
  • Weight: 186.6 lbs

Since I had already lost a few pounds before that first scan, my body fat at the very beginning was probably close to around 20%. Between December 2022 and May 1, 2023, I lost about 25 pounds while maintaining muscle and improving muscle definition, which is extraordinary for a man in his late 60s.

Muscle Preservation Achievement

Throughout the transformation, Roger maintained, and even increased, his skeletal muscle mass, going from 85.8 lbs in December 2022 to a peak of 91.9 lbs in July 2023. This level of muscle preservation during significant fat loss is exceptionally rare, especially for someone in their late 60s to early 70s.

The slight decrease to 84.7 lbs in the July 2025 scan reflects normal age-related changes and the InBody 270 calibration update. The consistent pattern demonstrates a true long-term physical transformation.

From December 2022 to March 2023, Roger lost weight at the medically recommended rate of about 2 pounds per week. His skeletal muscle mass did not decrease during this time, which is extremely uncommon for a man in his late 60s.

Note: In mid-2025, the InBody 270 unit underwent a calibration update that changed its internal algorithm, shifting reported body fat percentages upward. Even after this recalibration, measured body fat stayed at or under 10 percent, and the long-term pattern of high muscle mass and low body fat remained unchanged.

After four and a half years of weight fluctuating between 189-206 pounds, the transformation began in December 2022. Within three months, Roger achieved his goal weight and has maintained it for over two years, demonstrating this is a permanent lifestyle change, not a temporary diet. Approximately six weeks later, after continuing with his new approach to eating and his newfound love for exercise, he saw his near perfect body for the first time on May 1st, 2023.

This is data from selected scans that show the transformation.
The pattern is clear and consistent over time: maintaining this level of muscle development and leanness at age 71 is highly uncommon.

This was not temporary. This is a long-term physical state.

Weight data is sourced directly from medical records.
Body composition data is sourced from commercial-grade InBody & Technogym equipment.
