Dissolving Resistance

You do not have to force your way forward.

You do not have to struggle to make progress.

You do not have to rely on willpower to change.

You do have to understand what is happening in your mind.

Right now, count to 10 silently.

“1… 2… 3…”

Did you hear the numbers in your mind?

That is your inner voice speaking.

That voice is always there. Sometimes it helps you. Sometimes it works against you.Sometimes it’s even your worst enemy.

It may tell you that you are too tired to work out today.

It may suggest that a cookie would be nice right now.

That is where resistance begins.

When that happens, you must address it immediately.

Say, “Stop.”

Say, “Stop, Inner Voice.”

Say, “I will not have you sabotaging my efforts.”

Then change the script.

Tell your Inner Voice what it should be saying.

“When I go exercise today, I am going to feel fantastic.”

And…

“That cookie will not make me happy with the way I look.”

“I will have something my body actually wants. Something that will make me look and feel better.”

Strawberries. Carrots. Something clean. Something supportive for your life and your goal!

You are not fighting yourself.

You are directing yourself.

This reflects a deeper truth found in The Art of War:

All the true “opponents” have simply vanished from the battlefield.

As I did, you can do the same.

When you have adequately trained your Inner Voice, the conflict disappears.

For when the conflict disappears, resistance dissolves.

What remains is something most people never experience.

Effort without strain.

Discipline without force.

Progress without conflict.

Pleasure in these things.

Everything begins to move.

Not because you pushed harder,

but because nothing inside you is pushing back.

Always remember this:

For as a true warrior and master  tactician, you do not conquer resistance, you dissolve it.
